2026 Mercedes CLA EV for the US market to support 400V chargers

Mercedes

The Mercedes CLA EV will be available in the US in early 2026. In some markets the car will be compatible with only 800V charging stations, which would be a huge issue given that most charging stations in the US are 400V. Additionally, the car comes with Tesla's NACS charging port, meaning customers would have to use an adapter to CCS1 since most 800V stalls use that.

However, Mercedes quickly responded that the 2026 Mercedes CLA EV will support charging at both 800V and 400V stations. The vehicle will be fitted with a 400V converter so it can use the 400V DC fast-charging stations in North America too, including Tesla's stalls, which cap at 500V.

Naturally, the car won't be able to charge as fast using the 400V stalls, and Mercedes didn't disclose the exact figures. The company only confirmed that when the Mercedes CLA EV is plugged into an 800V charging station, it will draw 320 kW, giving you 202 miles in just 10 minutes. We can expect the 400V charging times to be much slower.

In any case, the vehicle's support of both standards means it will be compatible with over 140,000 charging stations across the US, 100,000 of which are 400V DC stalls.
