2026 Ram Ramcharger EREV brings 92 kWh battery

RAM

The 2026 Ram Ramcharger is the first extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) from Stellantis. In a way it's a bridge between the familiar power of gasoline engines and the innovative world of electric cars. Ready to hit dealerships in the latter half of 2025 as a 2026 model, the Ramcharger has impressive specs and a unique approach to electric vehicles.

Ram's parent company, Stellantis, has revealed key details about the Ramcharger's powertrain. Unlike in the Ram 1500 REV, here a 92 kWh battery is working in tandem with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine to provide a combined range of up to 690 miles. The Ramcharger can travel up to 145 miles on electric power alone, which should be enough for the vast majority of daily commutes. When the battery runs low, the V6 engine kicks in, acting as a generator to power the two electric motors with a combined output of 654 horsepower.

While the total battery capacity is 92 kWh, the Ramcharger uses 69.7 kWh. Ram explains that this lower usable capacity ensures a consistent driving experience, particularly when towing. And towing is where the Ramcharger truly shines. With a claimed towing capacity of 14,000 lb, it nearly doubles the towing capacity of its standard gasoline-powered counterpart.

Here's a confusing bit, though. When running on gasoline, the Ramcharger targets a fuel economy of 20.5 mpg. This figure is lower than the fuel economy of the standard Ram 1500 with the same 3.6-liter engine and four-wheel drive, which achieves a combined 23 mpg rating. Ram wants us to see it as a near-parity in fuel efficiency, but many will see it as a 15% hike in fuel consumption for a vehicle that is supposed to be eco-friendly. Obviously the extra weight of the more complicated powertrain and battery take their toll.

Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis describes the Ramcharger as a "Goldilocks truck." He suggests it strikes a perfect balance between the benefits of electric cars and the practicality of gasoline-powered trucks. The Ramcharger is designed to appeal to buyers who are intrigued by electric vehicles but hesitant to fully commit.

Pricing for the Ramcharger hasn't been officially announced, but Ram has indicated it will be comparable to gasoline-powered Ram 1500 models. This pricing strategy could make the Ramcharger an attractive option for buyers considering a new truck. It will be interesting to see how the consumers respond and how - if at all - the new Ram influences the future of electric trucks.
