Lucid Air gains access to Tesla Superchargers in the US this month, with a huge catch

Lucid

Today, Lucid has announced that its Air models are finally getting access to more than 23,500 Tesla Superchargers in the US starting on July 31.

The Lucid Gravity has the NACS connector built-in, but the Air doesn't - so, to access Tesla Superchargers you'll need an adapter. As every other EV maker is doing, Lucid is providing just such an adapter for Air owners, at $220 excluding taxes.

But it comes with a huge downside: using the adapter, the car will only charge at up to 50kW. That's ludicrously slow considering the Air can charge at up to 250kW or 300kW at a CCS charging station (depending on exact model).

The company says you'll get up to 200 miles of range per hour of keeping a Supercharger busy, but it remains to be seen how many people will actually go this route. Perhaps if there are no other, faster chargers in an area, it's a good idea, otherwise - not so much. And it can't be great news for Tesla owners either, if Lucid owners each start hogging Superchargers for hours at a time.
