Lucid Tesla

Lucid built the Air Sapphire specifically to beat the new Tesla Model S Plaid, and so the big question is - did it succeed? To find out, the folks over at Hagerty Media thought up one of the most insane drag races of all time.

Picture this. A standing quarter mile. The Lucid Air Sapphire. The Tesla Model S Plaid. And the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport. Ready, set, go!

If you couldn't watch the video, or just like to see outstanding achievements in writing too, here's the nitty gritty of what happened. The Lucid Air Sapphire won, which isn't really that surprising when you consider that it has 180 extra horsepower compared to the Tesla. The Air Sapphire did the standing quarter mile in 9.1 seconds, reaching 156 mph (251 km/h).

The Tesla Model S Plaid came in second, finishing the quarter mile in 9.3 seconds and reaching 152 mph (244 km/h). The Bugatti came in tied with the Tesla in time - 9.3 seconds, and with the Lucid in top speed - 156 mph (251 km/h).

0 to 60 mph (0 to 96 km/h) took the Lucid Air Sapphire 0.03 seconds less than the Tesla Model S Plaid, but they were still recorded as tied at 2.1 seconds. The Chiron managed 2.3 seconds.

The Lucid Air Sapphire starts at $249,000, which is a lot, but at least you get to brag that your car is quicker to accelerate than the quickest Tesla. And probably quicker than anything that isn't the Rimac Nevera, which costs ten times more.

This is mainly a commercial clip for LUCID....otherwise, they would bring RIMAC to wait for all of those vehicles on the finish line.....or maybe let them start ahead....
