Suzuki's pint-sized Vision e-Sky offers a glimpse into the future of city driving

Suzuki is offering a peek into its electric future with the Vision e-Sky, a concept car that points toward a new, affordable electric hatchback. The concept will be unveiled at the upcoming 2025 Japan Mobility Show, and is more than just a design exercise - it's actually a near-production look at what will be the next big thing in small electric cars, especially for Japan's popular minicar, or "kei," segment.

This little EV is designed to fit the strict rules for kei cars in Japan. It measures just 133.7 inches long, 58.1 inches wide, and 64 inches tall - that's shorter than a modern MINI Cooper. To make the most of its small footprint, Suzuki gave it a "tall boy" design. This boxy shape won't win any beauty contests, but it's a clever way to maximize interior space.

The exterior design is clean and futuristic, with smooth surfaces and practical, upright proportions. The front end is completely new for Suzuki, with pixel-style lights and distinctive C-shaped LED daytime running lights. Since it's an EV, it doesn't need a traditional grille for engine cooling, so that area is closed off, contributing to its clean look.

The sides feature more pronounced wheel arches, retractable door handles for a sleeker profile, and new wheel designs. Unlike the flat roof of the gasoline-powered Suzuki Wagon R it resembles, the Vision e-Sky has a slightly tapering roofline, which adds a touch of sportiness. The rear continues the C-shaped light theme and includes a spoiler.

Step inside, and the Vision e-Sky looks almost ready for customers. The cabin has a two-tone color scheme and features a modern dashboard with two large digital screens: one for the driver's instruments and a central touchscreen for infotainment, which could be around 12 inches each.

The three-spoke, squarish steering wheel is designed to give the driver a clear view of the instrument panel. In order to reduce clutter, most physical buttons have been replaced by screen controls. A floating center console includes a wireless charging pad for smartphones. In a quirky concept-car flourish, Suzuki even placed a small potted plant on the dashboard, a feature that will almost certainly not be included in the final version.

The company says the Vision e-Sky will have a driving range of up to 168 miles on a single charge. This range will likely come from a small and efficient battery pack, estimated to be between 20 and 25 kWh. This isn't a battery for cross-country road trips, but it's more than enough for daily city commuting, which is exactly what this electric car is designed for. Keeping the battery small also helps keep the car's price down, which is crucial for an entry-level EV.

Suzuki has confirmed that a production version of the Vision e-Sky is planned to go on sale in 2026, starting in Japan.
