Kia

Kia is on the verge of expanding its EV5 beyond the Chinese market. Initially a China-exclusive model, a global version of the EV5 is now rolling off assembly lines at the Yancheng plant, destined for buyers worldwide.

The EV5 will join the popular Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 in using the dedicated E-GMP electric architecture. Size-wise, the EV5 slots in just below the EV6.

The standard EV5 features a 160 kW front-mounted electric motor. For those seeking a quicker, more engaging drive, the AWD version adds a 70 kW rear motor, handling the 0-62 mph acceleration in 6.1 seconds.

The EV5's smaller battery has 58 kWh capacity, while the long-range variant boasts 88 kWh and a ranges exceeding 400 miles. Kia uses the LFP Blade batteries from BYD.

Kia's choice to turn China into its primary EV5 export hub is an interesting development on its own. Previously the maker made its international units in other countries.
