Dacia

The Dacia Spring, Europe's most affordable EV, has undergone its first significant redesign. Renault-owned Dacia unveiled the new version of its smallest EV - Spring Extreme. This is a more powerful trim that comes with a new electric motor and styling inspired by bigger SUVs.

The basic Dacia Spring comes with a 33 kW (44 hp) motor. The Spring Extreme boasts new electric motor that provides 48 kW (64 hp) - a significant boost from the 44-hp motor of the standard model. The new electric motor, together with the new gearbox doubles the torque sent to the wheels.

The battery remains the same at 26.8 kWh, with a range of 220 km (136 miles) in the WLTP combined cycle and 305 km (189 miles) in the WLTP City cycle. Although the combined range drops by 10 kilometers, the city range remains the same.

The new electric motor is an additional option, the Essential trim level will continue with the 45 hp motor as the standard choice. The Extreme trim replaces the popular Expression trim. It gives the Spring an outdoorsy feel thanks to its exclusive design features. The Slate Blue color, Copper Brown accents on the roof rails, mirror caps, wheel hubs, front bumper trim give the car much fresher look.

There are Copper Brown highlights inside the Dacia Spring Extreme, together with an embossed Dacia logo on the front seats.

Add to it topographic patterns on the door sills, and topographic print on the front rubber floor mats and we have one tough, outdorsy EV.

The Spring Extreme comes with a standard 7-inch touchscreen, complete with navigation and a rearview camera. The Extreme trim level will also be available on other Dacia models.

Starting January 17th, customers in France can place orders for the Dacia Spring Extreme. The car starts at €22,300 ($24,180) before any subsidies or other market-specific benefits. This makes the Spring Extreme €1,500 ($1,625) more expensive than the standard Spring Essential model. The shipments will begin in France and other European regions before the summer.

Dacia Spring Extreme is a great choice for those looking for a more powerful and stylish but small EV. While it still maintains the affordability that Dacia is famous for, the company is making a push to appeal to a wider range of customers.

That is actually the point of this car - it's meant and all its marketing point towards cities and short distances. This is fairly similar to Skoda Citigo EV, but simply better, cheaper and above all ... still in production. They even have a...

With 200 km range? It is POS. People need to cash out a lot of money for city commuting? It is, from any point of view, crazy waste of resources and money. On the other side, it is useless when you come out of the city...

This is just a perfect EV for a lot of people - it's cheap, range is around 200 km, it's fairly efficient. Can't help but think these low-end EVs will push adoption, at least in cities, more than "regular" EV that costs at...
