Ford

Ford's Phone as a Key (PAAK) feature has stopped working on some smartphones running Android 14. The company is issuing a public service announcement directly to users of its PAAK feature via email, as shared on Facebook by one such individual.

It all apparently has to do with "a recent Android 14 software update", according to Ford, although the company hasn't mentioned what specific update it's talking about and hasn't even outed a list of affected devices, so, as the saying goes, your mileage may vary.

Still, this is important to keep in mind if you depend on PAAK for access to your Ford car. The company says it's "working on a solution with third parties", and will issue a subsequent update on the situation once the problem is fixed.

In the meantime, Ford advises people to use their key fobs or backup passcode to get into their cars.

Where is the fix Ford? if Android update 14 only affects PAAK. This signifies the Ford PAAK app. needs a patch to be compatible. This software requires more SQA testing.

That's just manufacturers making terrible design decisions. Smartphones should never be a key for cars. Just offer a proper key whether an actual key or key fob.
