Kia

Kia is continuing its slow-drip launch of the EV9 in the US. First, there was an announcement. Then, actually detailed pricing information. Today, we get EPA-estimated range numbers for all the versions.

The $59,200 EV9 Light Long Range RWD gets the most EPA-estimated range, at 304 miles, up from a targeted 300 miles. Next up are both the $63,900 Wind e-AWD and the $69,900 Land e-AWD, at 280 miles, up from a target of 270 miles for the former and 253 miles for the latter.

The $73,900 EV9 GT-Line e-AWD scored 270 miles of EPA-estimated range, up from the initial target of 243 miles. Finally, the model with the smallest battery gets the lowest range number, unsurprisingly. It's the $54,900 Light RWD which has a 76.1 kWh battery capacity, unlike all the rest which boast 99.8 kWh batteries. This one manages 230 miles of EPA-estimated range, up from a target of 223 miles.

Starting on October 16, Kia America will take reservation requests for the EV9 for $750 (which will then be applied as a discount to the purchase price). If you make such a reservation through November 27, you are eligible to receive "a suite of gifts" once your purchase or lease of the EV9 is finalized. These gifts are a Webasto Go Dual Voltage Portable EV Charger, a complimentary three-year Kia Maintenance Plan, and one-year of available Digital Features & Services.

Regardless of reservation, anyone who buys an EV9 will receive 1,000 kWh of charging credit with Electrify America.

That's a lot more than what I would have guessed for this boxy thing. Kia, please put the big battery on something smaller.

Kia really missed the mark with the design of the EV9. It's a major disappointment.

The Wind AWD versions also have decent range numbers. It's great to see that Kia is really focusing on making these electric cars go the distance.
