Lucid

The Lucid Air sedan, is finally integrating Android Auto into its infotainment system. This update is a long-awaited addition, as some owners have resorted to creating their own hardware workarounds to access Android Auto.

While EV manufacturers like Tesla and Rivian have opted for proprietary operating systems, Lucid is embracing the popular smartphone integration platforms. The Lucid Air, known for its sleek design and impressive range, previously only supported Apple CarPlay. However, starting this fall, Android users will no longer feel left out, as an over-the-air (OTA) update will bring Android Auto functionality to the vehicle's 34-inch 5K panoramic screen.

Lucid Air finally embraces Android Auto

The Lucid Air, with its base model starting at $70,000, is a testament to luxury and cutting-edge technology. The addition of Android Auto complements its existing features, such as the retractable "Pilot Panel" for granular controls and the advanced driver-assistance systems. The Android Auto interface is expected to seamlessly integrate into the primary display, offering a familiar and user-friendly experience for Android users.

While the North American market, where Lucid primarily sells, may have a higher concentration of iPhone users, the demand for Android Auto cannot be ignored. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are more than just mirroring smartphone screens in cars. They are designed to enhance safety and convenience by providing voice commands, navigation, calling, texting, and music control, all optimized for in-vehicle use.

The integration of Android Auto into Lucid Air highlights the growing importance of software integration in modern vehicles. It took Lucid a while to get it into the Air, but hopefully, the reason behind the delays is the promised seamless integration.
