But will they refund the deposit for anyone who paid it?

You might think that if the thing they took the deposit for never materialised they'd have to refund, but from the experiences of people I know with Tesla, e.g. taking a reservation fee for what turned out to be a different model car than the customer had specified and then refusing to refund it despite taking it under false pretenses, I wouldn't be at all surprised if their policy was "we said it was non-refundable".
