I'm not impressed in the slightest by this, but it's not surprising. EV's always struggle with range on the highways, especially in the cold. This is why I'm driving a PHEV now. Daily commutes on electric but able to use ICE as a backup with no worries about charging networks. Works extremely well.

This is a city car, so I also think it's perfectly fine if it managed just below 500km. My grandfather's Skoda can't even get more than 400km, with a WLTP range of 540km.

The general use of a car is not on highway. All standards use a mixed use city/road/highway. The CLTC is known to be optimistic. Tp be pessinistic, what woujd be the result of a test on german highways at 250 km/h?

Well Xiaomi CEO Bold claims are pretty silly and funny to be honest. Still its a perfectly looking EV Car with unmatching sales.

But yeah, It's not much. EVs are good for cities not for highways.

EPA, CLTC or WLTP overestimate the range, not because of foul play but because how they simulate the range, the speed is much slower during those test along with other things, so of course the power consumption is lower and the range on a single charge is different.

It's clearly shown the average speed is 99.6km/s, yet the author is surprised why It doesn't achieve the declared range under Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).
Because CLTC is not a test simulating a highway driving but city/urban driving, the average speed is less than 30km/h. Even If It was WLTC or NEDC, It would still be higher than what they actually measured.
The fact this car managed 492km is actually not bad, but It's nowhere near what ICEs manage.

with 800km cltc and the condition this article stated it's testes i think 650km was expected. i'm no expert with chinese cars but we have a few chinese ev in my country and i own one. from my experience if you want to reach near cltc range you have to drive around 30-40 km without using climate control. this car was tested with climate control on and 84km speed with two person on the car 650km isn't that bad maybe eu/us cars reach their stated range idk but in my experience with chinese EVs this one isn't too far off. in normal 30-40km speed you'll probably reach 700km or even more with climate control on which seems good enough to me
