I think that North American and European regulators missed the boat years ago in not banning receding/electronic door handles. It's not too late: they should ban them now on all new cars, and require only regular mechanical door handles that do not recede or into the door frame. The only possible benefit of receding door handles are to prevent carjackings; they do not provide any reasonable level of aerodynamic benefit for fuel economy.
Cue massive lawsuits in the US and Europe ... including from families of people who burned to death or died from smoke inhalation due to emergency services or first responders not being able to open the unpowered (but not stuck) doors from the outside.
Added stalk, replacing handle, now one more thing left.....add back the LIDAR. Sometimes old is gold.
