They don't get it. It was not because they moved to EV too fast, it was because they made crappy EVs that many didn't want to buy.
I was watching a good time span on their cars, but they all lack something.

In 2026 this is ridiculous. You cant mash four different powertrains on the same chassis and expect decent results! The only way they were competing in EV space was through subsidizing big batteries for their inefficient wobbly coffins on wheels.

Jeep, Alfa Romeo and to a certain extent also Fiat have strong heritage in IC engines. For the rest of the brands i am not so sure. The french brands and german opel were never about exciting engines. But rather reliable everyday cars to get you from A to B dry and comfortable.

Quite a number of their electric offerings were based on shared platforms. That might save development costs but will only result in "not quite right" battery electric cars.

The statement "too fast" perhaps doesn't represent every market. Specifically in Europe newly registered BEV already make up 20% of the market. That's almost more than petrol cars (excl.Diesel) and the year-on-year share increase is strong. Whereas the overall registrations of passenger cars are shrinking.

I think the article is misleading blaming customer wishes for the losses. They should much rather admit a failed strategy. Now, at least in the US, they are going back to sell yesterday's tech and perhaps loose even more ground to current developments. I am afraid if the European brands are not allowed to have some independence they will vanish.

This is utter bullshit. They have not one dedicated EV on the road. They even praise themselves for this in the past. How it's better to use one platform for ICE, hybrid, and BEV vehicles. But the truth is that theirs EVs sucks. They are mediocre at best, and no wonder they do not sell tons of them. And introducing new diesel cars in Europe when EVs are booming and diesel cars are falling fast, is very wise business decision... In few years Chinese eats them for a lunch.

You cant just jump into a hot Water, you need to let It cool down.
Transition to EV should have been gradual.
This just proves It was a 20B mistake.
