Leapmotor

Chinese automaker Leapmotor has officially opened the order books for its B10 electric SUV, its first global model, with a starting price that will make people think twice. Beginning today, July 30th, customers in select European markets can order the new C-segment electric SUV for a list price starting from $35,000.

Leapmotor is targeting what it calls a new generation of drivers: young professionals and small families who are conscious of design and sustainability but also operate within a budget. The brand is betting that its approach of offering advanced features without a premium price tag will resonate in Europe's largest and most competitive vehicle segment.

The B10 is built on the company's new LEAP3.5 architecture. It's powered by a single electric motor that sends 218 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. This setup allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in a respectable 8 seconds, with a top speed of 106 mph.

Buyers will have a choice between two battery packs. The standard 56.2 kWh battery offers a WLTP-estimated range of up to 224 miles. For those needing to travel further, a larger 67.1 kWh pack is available, pushing the range to 270 miles. When it's time to recharge, the B10 supports 11 kW AC charging for home use and DC fast charging at speeds up to 168 kW, which can replenish the battery from 30% to 80% in about 20 minutes.

The B10's design is a mix of smooth curves and sharp lines, delivering a look that is both modern and energetic, but without being overly aggressive. Its dimensions are perfect for European roads, measuring 177.8 inches in length, 74.2 inches in width, and 65.2 inches in height. A long wheelbase of 107.7 inches contributes to one of the B10's main selling points: plenty of interior space.

Leapmotor claims the cabin offers some of the best passenger room in its class, with impressive headroom of 40.4 inches in the front and 39.6 inches in the rear. The company also highlights the 22 clever storage compartments scattered throughout the cabin, emphasizing the vehicle's practicality for daily life and family trips.

The dashboard of the B10 is dominated by a large, 14.6-inch floating touchscreen with a 2.5K resolution. The infotainment system is powered by a Snapdragon 8155 chip, promising a responsive and fluid user experience.

The operating system is called LEAP OS 4.0 Plus, and it offers a customizable interface and 3D graphics. While it has its own suite of apps and features, buyers will be pleased to know that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be available through an over-the-air (OTA) update starting in December 2025. The B10 targets a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating and comes with a high-strength steel frame, a 360-degree camera, and a suite of 17 advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

Leapmotor will offer the B10 in two trims. The entry-level LIFE version comes surprisingly well-equipped, featuring a massive 1.8-square-meter panoramic glass roof with an electric sunshade, 18-inch alloy wheels, a 360-degree camera, and the full ADAS package as standard.

The DESIGN trim adds luxuries such as ECO leather seats, configurable ambient lighting, and front seats that are heated, ventilated, and electrically adjustable. With chassis tuning assistance from Stellantis engineers and a balanced 50:50 weight distribution, the B10 promises a refined driving experience to go along with its extensive list of features.
