Opel Leapmotor Rumors

According to a new report, Opel owner Stellantis is in "advanced talks" with Leapmotor, of which it owns a healthy chunk, to co-develop an Opel electric SUV. If these talks pan out, the production would start in 2028 at the Stellantis plant in Spain, with a target output of 50,000 units per year.

The car would use the Leapmotor B10's architecture, and that car itself is also allegedly going to be made in the same Spanish plant for European markets later this year.

Opel will be designing the exterior of its upcoming car, while Leapmotor will supply "key technologies and components including electronic and electrical parts", with a significant part of the development taking place in China.

The talks between Stellantis and Leapmotor regarding this project apparently started in late 2025 and an agreement could be reached this month. This is important because it could help Stellantis cut development time for new models, and it's also important because the Opel brand makes up 21% of the group's sales in Europe.
