2024 Polestar 5 leaks in patent filing

Polestar

Late last year Polestar showed the world the Precept Concept, the car that was made out of recycled PET bottles, reclaimed fishing nets and cork vinyl. A number of interior and exterior components were made out of flax composite and the overall design was strikingly low and wide and the world applauded, but always assumed this car will never happen.

Imagine the shock and awe when images of the recent patent filed by Polestar turned up on the Internet. The company filed a patent for the upcoming Polestar 5 and it looks a lot like the Precept Concept. Clearly the B pillar is present and the car sits higher but the overall similarity is astonishing. The headlights, the front bumper, the doors and the general shape of the car are pretty much identical to the prototype.

Rear overhang is significantly longer on the Polestar 5 than it was on the Precept Prototype. We don’t have any images of the interior so we gotta hope that the automaker stays close to the prototype as well, knowing Polestar the interior will be light and airy and the colors we have seen in the Precept will make it to the production car. It’s amazing how the signature yellow seat belts brighten up the interior.

What we won’t be seeing in the Polestar 5 are the rear view mirrors replaced with cameras and two individual rear seats. Not yet at least - a few more years and mirrors might be a thing of the past. We won’t be seeing recycled bottles used anywhere in the production car or the fishing nets but we just may see the flax composite used here and there. Polestar is committed to using as much recycled materials as possible and it deserves a round of applause for that.

Polestar 5 will be manufactured in China, at Polestar’s new carbon neutral facility - second such plant after Chengdu where the company makes Polestar 1 using 100% renewable energy.

Before we get to see the Polestar 5 on the roads we’ll be first treated to Polestar 3 SUV later this year and then Polestar 4 later in 2023. EV choice is getting bigger and bigger and soon we won’t even remember that it all started with one company, with just one serious EV.

How much of the Precept Prototype interior will make it to Polestar 5? How much of the Precept Prototype interior will make it to Polestar 5?
