Audi RS e-tron GT Ice Race celebrates 40 years of Audi Sport GmbH

Audi

For those unfamiliar with the legacy, Audi Sport GmbH turned 40 this year. Birthed from quattro GmbH in 1983, this subsidiary has been serving the brand's distinguished clientele with its Audi exclusive program for nearly three decades. As a tribute, they’ve unveiled a special treat for automotive enthusiasts: the Audi RS e-tron GT Ice Race Edition.

This beauty, limited to a mere 99 units for the European market, is steeped in inspiration drawn from the GP Ice Race in Austria. Imagine a car design that channels the world of snow, with colors that sparkle like snow crystals, and interiors reminiscent of the pristine icy landscapes. Ah, but that's not sarcasm you detect. It's genuine admiration. Sort of.

The exterior of the Ice Race Edition is striking with its basic color in Florett silver metallic, paired with a contrasting black carbon roof. Adding some razzle-dazzle, there's a foil wrap inspired by the glitter of ice, combined with patterns that mimic ice crystals. Violet accents, reminiscent of shimmering ski goggles, pop against the icy backdrop. Now, while we won’t say it’s pure magic on wheels, it certainly has an enchanting touch.

The interiors are where Audi excels in making one feel wrapped in luxury. The seats, adorned in diamond silver leather and black leather sections, have contrasting purple stitches, which is a neat hat-tip to the car’s exterior theme. Not to mention, there's a new steering wheel that pays homage to racing cars, and the icing on the cake - a unique MMI background image displaying the RS e-tron GT Ice Race Edition lettering and the car’s serial number.

This special edition is based on the standard RS e-tron GT. Charging won't be an issue for potential European owners; the car is compatible with over half a million public charging points across the continent. With fast DC charging capabilities, a mere five minutes at the charging point promises around 62 miles of driving. Now that's convenience with a capital C.

What’s intriguing is that this edition is a throwback and a leap forward simultaneously. While the GP Ice Race event, originating in 1952 and rekindled in 2019, inspired the edition, Audi Design also took hints from the captivating hues and topography of Zell am See.

Customization has been at the heart of Audi for around 30 years, and boy, have they come a long way from their initial offerings. From the days of bar compartments and VHS players to present-day bespoke MMI background images and ambient lighting themes, Audi's commitment to personalization is both commendable and, dare we say, a tad indulgent.

But hey, it’s not all just about the present. Audi's future appears to be paved with innovative ventures. From expanding the Audi exclusive offerings digitally to diving deeper into virtual immersion experiences, they seem to have a slew of exciting plans up their sleeves. Audi RS e-tron GT Ice Race Edition is an emblem of that journey - from a snowy mountain race in Austria to the pinnacle of electromobility.
