BYD

BYD's Yuan Up was teased and certified for sale by the Chinese authorities last month, and today it finally become official. The compact SUV is offered in three versions, priced at CNY 96,800 ($13,400), CNY 109,800 ($15,200), and CNY 119,800 ($16,600). Those who purchase before June 30 will receive a CNY 2,000 ($277) trade-in subsidy and a 24-month 0 interest loan.

The cheapest iteration of the Yuan Up comes with a 32 kWh battery with a CLTC range of 187 miles. The other two options both have a 45.12 kWh battery and a range of 249 miles.

In terms of power, the entry-level version has 70 kW and 180 Nm peak torque, and this translates into a 0 to 62 mph time of 12 seconds. The other two versions have a beefier 130 kW motor with 290 Nm peak torque, and are thus capable of making it to 62 mph in 7.9 seconds.

The Yuan Up is 169.7 inches long, 72 inches wide, 65.9 inches tall, and has a wheelbase of 103.1 inches. It's built on BYD's all-electric e-Platform 3.0. It's being offered in green, white, pink, and gray. The Yuan family has been one of the best selling for BYD, accounting for about 14% of all sales in 2023, and the new Yuan Up will certainly help keep it that way.

It's unclear if the Yuan Up will ever be sold outside of China, but we hope it will - it seems like it could be a great (not to mention much better looking) competitor to the Dacia Spring, for example.
