BYD

The latest regulatory filings from the Chinese MIIT reveal new additions to BYD's fast-growing lineup of NEVs - or New Energy Vehicles. They are the all-electric Sealion 05, hybrid Seal 05, and hybrid Seal 07.

The Sealion 05 EV will be the second pure electric model in the Sealion series, following the Sealion 07. This five-seat SUV measures 178 inches in length, 73.2 inches in width, and 64.2 inches in height, with a wheelbase of 107.1 inches. Two versions will be available, both with a top speed of 112 mph. They will be powered by a single electric motor with peak power options of 140 kW and 160 kW. The Sealion 05 EV is slightly smaller than its hybrid counterpart, the Sealion 05 DM-i, which measures 185.4 inches in length.

BYD is also expanding its hybrid offerings with the Seal 05. This plug-in hybrid sedan is powered by a 1.5 L engine producing 74 kW and a single electric motor with a peak power of 120 kW. Four versions of the Seal 05 hybrid will be available, each with a top speed of 180 kilometers per hour.

The Seal 07 is not entirely new. The regulatory filings reveal only a new hybrid variant with a focus on performance. This version comes with a dual-motor setup with a combined output of 350 kW, and as a result, it deals with the 0 to 62 mph sprint in just 4.7 seconds.

The new models expose BYD's changing approach to the EV market. The company hopes to expand its customer base by offering a diverse range of electric and hybrid vehicles. The needs and preferences of Chinese EV buyers have been evolving rapidly, and hybrid vehicles are gaining popularity.

BYD has also filed for other models - the new Qin Plus, Dolphin, Denza N9, and Fang Cheng Bao Tai 3. These filings suggest a busy pipeline of new electric and hybrid vehicles from BYD.
