Nio sub-brand Onvo launches the L60, its first EV with up to 620 miles range

It's finally here. Nio's first sub-brand, Onvo, has officially launched its first EV. Meet the Onvo L60. The car is meant to take on Tesla's Model Y, and the pre-sale price of the L60, at CNY 219,900 ($30,500), is CNY 30,000 ($4,150) less than the Model Y's. Deliveries of the L60 are set to begin in China in September.

In case you were wondering, the name Onvo derives from "ON VOyage". This is the international name, in China it goes by "Ledao", which roughly translates as "path to happiness". The brand is focused on family-friendly vehicles.

The L60 is built on a 900V architecture, and it boasts a drag coefficient of 0.229 Cd, the lowest of any production SUV in the world. This should give it an energy consumption of just 12.1 kWh per 62 miles.

The Onvo L60 is 190.1 inches long, 75.6 inches wide, and 63.9 inches tall, with a wheelbase of 113.8 inches.

It has a CLTC range of 345 miles for the base model with a 60 kWh battery, and 454 miles for the long-range version with a 90 kWh battery, but do as always note that CLTC range estimates are by far the most optimistic around. You will also be able to rent Nio's ultra-long-range 150 kWh battery pack which is good for over 620 miles, since the L60 supports Nio's battery swapping tech.

Inside, there's a 17.2-inch center infotainment screen powered by Nvidia's Orin X chip, and there's a 13" head-up display too but no separate instrument cluster screen in front of the driver.

Unfortunately, no more details about the Onvo L60 have been made public at this point. Those who want one in China can pay CNY 2,000 ($275) to reserve one, and if they do they'll get CNY 6,000 ($825) off the full price when they have to settle the balance.

Onvo will launch globally in late 2024, most likely in Europe first.
