Ford brings West Coast style to the 2026 Mustang Mach-E

Ford is giving its popular electric SUV a fresh look and some helpful new tools. The 2026 Mustang Mach-E is getting a special edition that looks back at the past, hoping to be more practical and stylish for everyday drivers. Despite many people still arguing about whether an SUV should carry the Mustang name, Ford continues to push the model forward with better range and smarter safety tech.

The big news is the arrival of the GT California Special. This model takes its cues from the original 1968 Mustang. Back then, dealers in California were selling so many Mustangs that Ford made a special version just for them. Ford wants to remind everyone that its electric SUV has some history in its blood, even if it misses a rumbling V8 engine under the hood.

On the outside, the GT California Special stands out with some very specific details. It sits on 20-inch Carbonized Grey wheels that feature a special logo. You will also notice "Rave Blue" accents on the badges and the front grille. There is a unique stripe on the hood with lines that are supposed to look like a sunset over the ocean. It is a nice touch for people who want their car to look like it belongs on a beach road, even if they are just stuck in traffic on a Tuesday morning.

Inside the cabin, the changes continue. The seats use a high-end synthetic material called ActiveX. It looks like leather but is actually tougher and easier to clean - good news for anyone who has ever spilled a drink in their car. The interior is finished in a color called Navy Pier, and the seats have blue and silver stripes. The steering wheel and the center console also get the same blue treatment, making the whole car feel like a coordinated outfit.

It is not all about looks, though. Ford also worked on making the Mustang Mach-E go farther. The Premium Extended Range models get new tires that have less rolling resistance. For the all-wheel-drive version, the range goes up to 345 miles. If you choose the rear-wheel-drive version, you can now travel up to 382 miles. Those are gains of 3.1 miles and 9 miles, which might not seem like a lot, but every little bit helps when you are looking for a charging station.

Safety gets an update as well for 2026. Ford is now including Clear Exit Assist as a standard feature. This system uses sensors to watch for people on bikes, scooters, or walking behind the car. If someone is coming and you try to open your door, the car will give you a warning. This helps prevent "dooring" accidents, which is a scary and common problem in busy cities.

The car also comes with a full pack of driver aids. This includes adaptive cruise control, which keeps a safe distance from the car in front of you. It also has systems to help you avoid crashes or stay in your lane. One of the most famous features is BlueCruise. This allows you to take your hands off the wheel on certain highways while the car steers itself. Ford plans to bring this "hands-off, eyes-on" tech to more of its vehicles, like the Puma and the Ranger, by the summer of 2026.
