Honda

Honda announced its intentions to launch a 'new global EV series' at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The Japanese automaker aims to release 30 new EVs by 2030 and achieving complete carbon neutrality by 2050, so it's got no time to lose

The teaser released by Honda doesn't show much. It can be wither the front or the rear of a very futuristic car, featuring unconventional design elements such as wheel coverings with lined triangles and an abundance of glass and purple lighting.

Honda confirms it will be a global model, so there's at least that.

Honda has encountered its fair share of setbacks on the path to electrification. The cancellation of plans to produce affordable EVs with General Motors and the suspension of public operations by Cruise, GM's autonomous unit in which Honda has an investment, raise concerns about the company's ability to execute its ambitious plans.

The promise of a 'new global EV series' is enticing, but without concrete details, it's difficult to gauge the significance of this announcement. We'll have to wait until January 9th, 2024, at 10:30 AM PT, when Honda takes the stage at CES in Las Vegas, to learn more about its vision for the future of electric mobility.

In the meantime, it's worth remembering that Honda isn't putting all its eggs in one basket. The Prologue crossover, based on the same Ultium platform as the Chevrolet Blazer EV, is already available for pre-orders, with deliveries set to begin in spring 2024. This move aligns with Honda's goal of having 40% of its North American sales as zero-emission vehicles by 2030.
