Karma Automotive, a California-based electric vehicle manufacturer, unveiled the Kaveya coupe and the Gyesera sedan. These vehicles mark a significant shift for Karma, reinventing itself as a purveyor of ultra-luxury EVs. The Kaveya is set to debut in late 2025, and the Gyesera is coming next year.

Karma Automotive introduces the Kaveya Coupe and Gyesera Sedan

The Karma Kaveya, described as an 'EV super coupe GT', stands at 187.7 inches long - an inch longer than BMW iX3. It boasts an aluminum frame construction complemented by carbon fiber body panels. You get butterfly doors, slim headlights, and a deployable rear spoiler. Weighing in at 5,300 lb, the Kaveya is far from lightweight, but its performance metrics are nothing short of impressive.

The Kaveya offers two variants: a 536-horsepower rear-wheel-drive version and a more potent 1,180-horsepower all-wheel-drive model. Both variants are equipped with a 120 kWh battery pack, allowing a range of over 250 miles and a rapid charging time of 45 minutes from 10 to 80%. The all-wheel-drive Kaveya aims to hit 0-60 mph in under 3 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 180 mph.

The Gyesera, Karma's first all-electric 'touring sedan', stretches 200 inches in length, slightly longer than the Tesla Model S. Like the Kaveya, it features an aluminum spaceframe with carbon fiber and aluminum panels, tipping the scales at a similar 5,300 lb. The Gyesera sports a 590-horsepower rear-wheel-drive electric powertrain, capable of a 0-60 mph sprint in under 4.2 seconds and a top speed above 135 mph. It also shares the Kaveya's 120-kWh battery, ensuring a range of over 250 miles.

Both vehicles were designed by Michelle Christensen, known for her work on the second-generation Acura NSX. Her influence is evident in the sleek, aerodynamic lines and sophisticated styling of both models, the company claims.

Karma's relaunch under the ownership of China's Wanxiang Group includes ambitious plans to debut new products and concepts every six months starting from the third quarter of 2024. This includes the reintroduction of the Revero plug-in hybrid sedan. However, the success of these plans remains to be seen, considering the competitive and rapidly evolving EV market.
