Kia to triple European EV production as demand ramps up

Kia

Kia recently launched its first all-electric vehicle produced in Europe, the EV4, at its Zilina plant in Slovakia, and the company's CEO announced that it plans to increase the BEV production on the Old Continent threefold in the next two years.

Kia to double down on European EV production

Kia's Zilina factory has a production capacity of around 320,000 vehicles annually, and this number can be pushed to 350,000 if it works overtime. By 2027, the Korean automaker plans to produce more than 80,000 EV4 units and 100,000 EV2 units at the plant.

Kia's ultimate goal is to increase production of the EV2 and EV4 vehicles to 100,000 units each globally by 2027. This will be enough to keep its global supply chain stocked and make the models profitable.

Kia to double down on European EV production

To reach its goal, Kia must invest €108 million in building production capacity for the EV2 and EV4.

Kia's decision comes after particularly strong August BEV sales and positive feedback from the media and customers on the recently launched EV4. The EV3 appears to be driving growth in Europe, with 45,269 sales over the last eight months.
