Lucid is pushing a new software update to its Gravity electric SUV, adding a host of features designed to make life a bit easier for owners. The over-the-air (OTA) update focuses heavily on improving the towing experience, introduces new security functions currently in development, and refines the vehicle's infotainment system.
The Lucid Gravity is already known for some impressive numbers. The large electric SUV offers a driving range of up to 450 miles on a single charge and has an interior that competes with some of the largest gasoline-powered SUVs on the market.
With its latest software, named UX 3.3, Lucid adds practical, real-world convenience to its list of high-tech talking points. The update is delivered wirelessly, meaning owners don't need to visit a service center; the new features simply appear in their vehicle.
For anyone planning to haul a boat or a camper, the update brings some welcome news. Lucid says the new tools make towing "a breeze," a claim backed by three specific features. The first is an Integrated Trailer Brake Control, which helps manage the trailer's braking system directly from the vehicle.
Second is a new Hitch View, which uses the vehicle's rear camera to display a clear image of the trailer hitch on the main screen, helping drivers align the vehicle for hookup. Finally, a Trailer Light Check function lets the owner cycle through the trailer's lights using the Lucid mobile app, ensuring everything is working before hitting the road.
Lucid is giving Gravity owners an early look at two new security features still in development. As part of its "Halo Secure" package, the company introduced Live View and Drive Recorder. Live View allows owners to remotely tap into the Gravity's external cameras through the smartphone app, giving them a real-time look at the vehicle's surroundings.
The Drive Recorder function acts like a built-in dashcam, automatically capturing and saving video clips of events like an accident. The system saves the footage to a USB storage device, though owners will need to supply their own drive.
The software update also includes several smaller tweaks improving the daily driving experience. The infotainment system has been refined to be quicker and more responsive and a new feature allows users to "bookmark" favorite destinations, creating a one-tap shortcut on the home screen for easy navigation. The quality of the audio system has been improved as well, with clearer sound during phone calls thanks to reduced background noise.
