The automotive world is accelerating its green transformation, and Mercedes-Benz's latest sales report is yet another proof of this. The Q3 numbers show a remarkable 66% rise in the sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

Mercedes-Benz Cars clocked 510,600 sales in total in Q3, which is a 4% dip. However, when we narrow our lens to electric vehicle sales, a different story emerges.

Mercedes-Benz electric car sales surge

61,600 BEVs were sold in this quarter alone, which is 12% of all sales by the company. Had it not being for their strong growth the overall sales slowdown would have been far more significant.

Leading the electric pack are the EQA and EQB models, boasting a growth of 108% and 96% respectively. The EQS SUV had an even larger 162% increase, but the base is very low for that one.

The overall sales for the January to September period are up by 2%, culminating in a total of 1,529,800 units. The electric shift is evident with hybrids and EVs now accounting for 20% of Mercedes' total sales.

Britta Seeger, a board member at Mercedes-Benz Group AG, commented that the allure of the brand remains undeterred, especially in the electric segment. She touched upon the new Concept CLA Class presented at the IAA in Munich, teasing an elevated electric experience on the near horizon.

Turning our focus to the regions, Europe stood out with a 12% boost in Q3 sales, led by the GLC model, which recorded a striking 104% surge. The German market showcased resilience with an 11% growth in Q3, buoyed by the doubled BEV sales, particularly the EQA.

Asia’s numbers remained stable, with China shining a spotlight on the G-Class and Mercedes-Maybach, both of which broke their previous records. Over in the US, BEV sales more than doubled in Q3, with the EQE SUV and EQS SUV leading the charge, representing nearly half of the BEV sales till September.

Interestingly, amid all this electric buzz, the G-Class showcased its mettle with an 11% boost in sales in Q3, and the iconic Mercedes-Maybach witnessed a 26% sales increase.
