I live in China. The car is ok, but after initial hype, the situation is not so good for xiaomi. Remember during the launch, they said they sold 1 year of production, but in reality 80% of these orders were cancelled. Now 5 weeks waiting time is also fake, because in my city Guangzhou you can buy the car straight away ( available stock) or order individual car and wait 3-4 weeks.

...and yes, generally speaking, many components from Chinese manufacturers are of low quality. This is especially true of plastics made there. The Chinese definition of "acceptable" in the quality standards of the plastic pellets is the reason why you find that after a few years the plastic either cracks or becomes sticky on the surface, especially in warmer regions of the world. It's not the manufacturing processes themselves, but the sub-standard materials which are accepted for those processes.
