it's funny because he's exposing all the money the US taxpayer wastes on other countries...and now this upsets them. Go figure. I may not like the guy, but it's great to get some sunlight on all the waste of "USAID" and similar money pits.
Two observations:
1) The reputational damage he's inflicted on himself, and by association the company, isn't going to go away quickly. Carrying on doing unspecified "government work" once or twice a week will probably ensure that it never goes away. So he will probably remain a reputational drag on Tesla, and hence a drag on sales.
2) But would his giving more attention to Tesla be a benefit otherwise? Well the Tesla product that is most visibly his baby, his (former) passion project, is also the one truly disastrous product they've ever launched: the Cybertruck. Has he learned from that? His interest now seems to be based on a robo-taxi project, but he's spent more than a decade now over-promising and under-delivering on self-driving technology, so this is something I'd be wary of investing in, and more so when it's him making the promises.
So overall there may be investors out there who'll think this is good for Tesla. Personally I suspect that a complete separation might be better for the company.
