zexel802, 15 Apr 2026Didn't expect that one of the chinese legacy automakers still comes out with a new IC eng... moreIf their EM-i equipped PHEV any indication, their hybrid system is very similar to that of Honda e:HEV (or BYDs DM-i) with the added benefit of SiC DC-DC converter between the battery and the inverter to avoid stalls at low SOC. This type of system can connect ICE drive to the wheels only at higher speeds. This is done to remove double conversion loss and is more efficient overall at highway speeds than pure EREVs (like Nissan's e-Power). EREVs can usually get more efficient or simpler ICE engine because they only need to run in one mode at all times, while PHEV engines have to support wide range of modes.
Didn't expect that one of the chinese legacy automakers still comes out with a new IC engine. We should suspect that also in this i-HEV system the IC engine is unfortunately still able to drive the wheels directly.
