Mercedes announces thea cheaper elwctric AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe

The Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door Coupe broke cover in May and was introduced in only two configurations - the top-tier GT 63 and the mid-tier GT 55. The former boasts 1,153 hp with a 432 miles range, while the latter boasts 805 hp and a 435 miles range. Now, the automaker is bringing the base GT 53 model to the family.

AMG GT 53

Despite being a base model, the AMG GT 53 is actually pretty fast. It swaps out the tri-motor configuration on the GT 55 and GT 63 for two motors with a combined peak output of 536 hp (800 Nm). The vehicle switches between front and rear-wheel drive depending on the situation. This is enough for the GT 53 to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.

Although relatively slower, the GT 53 has an advantage over its faster, more expensive siblings. The 106-kWh battery is enough to bring the cruising range to 503 miles. Charging from 10% to 80% takes only 11 minutes, while a 10-minute charging session adds 332 miles to the range. As long as you pair the car with a 600-kW charger.

Remember that authentic AMG V8 sound that the GT 63 and GT 55 launched with? Well. The GT 53 gets an inline-six, turbocharged 3.0-liter engine sound. The car simulates gear shifts, too.

The second-generation AMG GT 63 and 55 4-Door Coupe versions will hit US streets by the end of this year, while the GT 53 buyers will have to wait for early 2027. Sales in Germany kick off on August 13 with a starting price of €115,430.
