During the 2026 Paris Motor Show, BYD announced that its largest SUV, the Atto 8, is coming to the European market. This is a long, seven-seat EV, which aims to be an alternative to the Kia EV9 and the Hyundai Ioniq 9. It will also be available in the UK after other right-hand-drive countries like Australia receiveing it earlier this year.
The Atto 8 will come in two configurations in the UK - Design RWD and Excellence AWD. The RWD configuration offers one motor mounted on the rear axle, producing 449 hp, while the AWD variant adds an extra motor on the front, achieving a combined peak output of 754 hp.
Naturally, the RWD version has longer range - 405 miles according to WLTP data, while the AWD settles for 374 miles on a single charge.
Speaking of charge, the vehicle is fitted with BYD's Flash Charging tech, allowing the huge 115 kWh battery to go from 10 to 97% in just 9 minutes. And since the system uses one of BYD's Blade batteries, charging performance doesn't deteriorate as much when it's cold. BYD advertises 20-97% charging in -30 °C weather in just 12 minutes. BYD says Europe will have more than 3,000 fast-charging stations supporting BYD's Flash Charge by the end of next year.
As far as the interior is concerned, the Atto 8 is equipped with a large 15.6-inch central infotainment display paired with a 10.25-inch driver's display. The heads-up display is standard, along with dual wireless charging pads for smartphones and insulated glass for the front windows.
The standard equipment doesn't end there. All Atto 8 units also get heating, ventilation and massage for the front and middle-row seats, tri-zone climate control, panoramic glass roof, genuine leather seats and a 10-speaker sound system. Upgrade to Excellence AWD, and you also get a fridge in the front that can cool down to 6 °C and also warm up to 50 °C.
Europe and the UK are confirmed to receive the Atto 8 in early 2027, but pricing will remain a mystery for a while longer.
