Opel

Today Opel has released the first images of its upcoming Frontera, which will be available both as a hybrid as well as a full battery electric vehicle. It definitely looks appealing, and ever since January when the brand first told us it would bring back the Frontera name, we've been anxious to see what it would look like.

The only problem is, while it looks good, it doesn't really look like the old Fronteras that came (way) before it. That may be a slight downside for fans of the old models, but at least the name survives.

According to Opel, the new Frontera brings "a combination of rugged design, spaciousness, clever solutions and efficient drivetrains", although the specifics about those drivetrains have unfortunately not been mentioned - there will surely be some more info coming out in the next few months.

The Frontera combines "a functional and spacious cabin volume with a very bold and tough, but modern expressive look", and features the new Opel 'Blitz' emblem, which is now debuting on a series model, sitting proudly at the center of the Opel Vizor at the front. This Vizor gives the car "a unique identity" while integrating the Eco LED headlamps with automatic high beam.

Inside, you get two 10-inch displays and a "bold and elegant new steering wheel" for a "clean, detoxed user experience to avoid any form of digital stress". It also has an optional smartphone station, to which you connect via a dedicated app in order to make your handset the car's infotainment control panel basically. You can even interact with the steering wheel buttons via your phone.

The patented Intelli-Seat feature in the front seats relieves pressure on the tailbone and ensures outstanding comfort even on long journeys. The seats have contrast stitching too and the fabrics are available in a fully sustainable recycled material.

There's also a cooled wireless charger, two USB ports in the front, two in the back, and the center console can even store tablets with a flexible strap that holds them in place. The rear passengers get integrated smartphone pockets in the back rests of the front seats.

Luggage space is 16.2 ft³ when the seats are up, and when they're folded this jumps up to 56.5 ft³. The roof can also take 441 lb of load if need be.
