Polestar

The Polestar 4 has now been officially launched in the US. You will be able to order one in late April, starting at $54,900 for the entry-level model called "Long range Single motor". The AWD version called "Long range Dual motor", with "standard Pilot Pack" will start at $62,900. Deliveries will start in the fourth quarter of this year, so no sooner than October. All prices exclude a $1,400 destination fee.

Polestar initially said the car would cost around $60,000, so the $54,900 starting price is a fair bit lower than that estimate, which can only be good news. It is however positioned in a price range that's full of competition, so it remains to be seen how well it will actually do. Here's the full table of pricing for the US market.

In case you were wondering, the Pilot Pack comes with Pilot Assist and Lane Change Assist. The Pro Pack contains 21-inch "Pro wheels", black seat belts with a Swedish gold stripe, and Swedish gold valve stem caps.

The Plus Pack gives you a graphical head-up display, automatically dimming exterior mirrors, more customization for seat positions (including a manual leg extension), electronically reclineable rear seats, MicroTech upholstery, three-zone climate control, rear climate control and entertainment screen, heated steering wheel and rear seats, 11kW AC charging, and a premium Harman Kardon audio system.

The Performance Pack has 22" wheels, Brembo brake calipers in Swedish gold, summer performance tires, "Polestar engineered brake discs" (whatever that means), a performance chassis, Swedish gold seat belts and valve stem caps.

Polestar describes the 4 as "a new breed of SUV coupe", having the space of the former and the aerodynamics of the latter. Rather confusingly given the naming, it's positioned in between the Polestar 2 and the Polestar 3 in both size and price.

Polestar brags about how many things come as standard in the 4 - a panoramic glass roof, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree parking camera with 3D view, a heat pump, digital key, and more. The car is interestingly missing a rear windscreen, the glass having been eliminated and replaced by an HD screen showing a real-time feed from a roof-mounted rear camera, which, Polestar says, enables a "far wider field of view compared to what is found in most modern vehicles".

The Polestar 4's infotainment system is Android Automotive, running on a 15.4-inch landscape-oriented touchscreen. This comes with Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play built-in.
