Smart

In 1998, Smart set a precedent in the automotive world with the introduction of the compact two-seat model. Now, as Smart commemorates its 25th Anniversary, the company wants to liven up the market once again with the launch of the Smart #3 25th Anniversary Edition. Priced at around ($50,750), the limited edition #3 goes on sale on January 19.

After a strategic transformation into an all-electric brand, Smart reached an impressive milestone in 2023 by delivering nearly 70,000 electric vehicles worldwide, with a significant chunk of its sales coming from the ever-growing Chinese market. As a fitting tribute to its 25 years of innovation, Smart introduces the #3 25th Anniversary "Starry Sky Commemorative Edition."

This exclusive commemorative edition is loaded with sporty elements, including a sleek blackened Smart logo, streamlined air vents, and striking red accents. The dynamic rear spoiler and elegant 19-inch wheels contribute to its stylish and contemporary appearance. Inside, the cabin comes with vibrant red accents as well, a flat-bottom steering wheel, a panoramic galaxy roof, and 64-color ambient lighting. The #3 25th Anniversary Edition also boasts an exclusive 25th-anniversary plaque.

The #3 25th Anniversary Starry Sky Commemorative Edition is powered by a rear-mounted single motor delivering 200 kW of power. The car promises an impressive 360 miles range, and a rapid 0-62 mph acceleration time of just 5.4 seconds.

Smart has come a long way since its inception and has undergone changes in ownership. Originally under the umbrella of Mercedes and Swatch, in 2019, Smart entered into a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely. This partnership combines Mercedes' global design prowess for the #3's exterior and interior with Geely's manufacturing and tech expertise. The Smart #3 is built upon Geely's SEA platform, the same platform used by the Smart #1, Volvo EX30, and Zeekr X, showcasing its adaptability and versatility.

Currently, Smart's lineup comprises two electric models: the Smart #1 and the Smart #3. The Smart #1 made headlines in November 2023 as it was included in the list of candidates for the prestigious Car of the Year in Europe 2024 award.

Looking ahead, Smart is set to expand its lineup with an unnamed MPV, which, intriguingly, draws design inspiration from the Mercedes-Benz GLB. This addition showcases Smart's ambition to diversify its offerings and cater to a wider audience.

Smart celebrates with SUV ... what a joke, especially considering the roots of this company.
