Honda Sony Afeela

Sony and Honda have decided to cancel their Afeela 1 co-developed EV, as well as the second model, an SUV, that didn't even have a name yet.

The Afeela project was announced back in 2023, and the joint venture between Sony and Honda has been showing concepts and prototypes every year at CES since then. Back in February of last year, the first store was even set up for the Afeela brand.

For what it's worth, we went eyes-on with the latest Afeela 1 at CES this January. The official press release announcing the cancellation says this is "a result of Honda's reassessment of its automobile electrification strategy", which was announced on March 12.

Because of this move by Honda, the Afeela brand "will not be able to utilize certain technologies and assets that were originally planned to be provided by Honda". Thus, Afeela has "determined that it does not have a viable path forward to bring the models to market as originally planned".

All of those who reserved an Afeela will receive full refunds. Afeela will "continue discussions with Sony and Honda regarding its future business plans", so the brand itself isn't dead yet, but its future is definitely unclear.
