An APK teardowns, courtesy of Android Authority, revealed some interesting details about Spotify and YouTube's Android Auto apps. The popular apps will get new looks based on Google's new media app templates for Android Auto.
At Google's I/O 2025, the company announced new media app templates part of Android for Cars App Library, and if developers choose to use them, they can provide a consistent experience with other apps on Android Auto. The Media Playback template is just one example and helps developers build a Now Playing view with customizable interactions.
However, the templates are still in beta, so developers can only publish them to closed testing channels on the Play Store. So the screenshots of the new Spotify and YouTube UIs are an early look that's not yet available to the public.
One of the most notable features of the new templates is the ability to adapt to your car's central screen DPI. The seek bar is also revamped and follows the Material 3 Expressive design language.
The new templates are still in the testing stage, and we don't know when they will be made available to the broader public. Also, there could be changes to the final design of both apps.
