During the New York Auto Show, Subaru introduced an upgraded Subaru Solterra model year 2026 with plenty of new features and a complete exterior redesign. More importantly, though, the Solterra gets massive range and performance upgrades.
The new hardware includes a larger 74.7 kWh battery, faster charging and a more powerful rear-mounted motor. The larger battery pack allows the vehicle to run 285 miles now on a single charge per the EPA rating, a healthy 25% improvement over the current generation. The battery pack is now aided by pre-conditioning mode, which helps the cells charge faster in cold weather.
Speaking of charging, the new Solterra can go from 10 to 80% in 35 minutes using a 150 kW charger and now comes with an NACS port, making it compatible with Tesla's charging stations.
The AWD Solterra still has two electric motors, but the rear one has been replaced with a more powerful and efficient one, bumping up the maximum output to 338 hp, up from 215 hp. Subaru added more modes to the X-Mode system, suitable for snowy and muddy conditions. The suspension has also been upgraded providing better handling.
The interior is now equipped with a 14-inch infotainment screen with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the wireless chargers, USB-C ports, and the ADAS features under the Subaru EyeSight suite come standard with the Solterra.
The exterior design looks like a noticeable departure from the current one, further distinguishing it from Toyota's bZ4X, as they share the same platform. The new Solterra now has slimmer LED lights, toned-down front grille and the black plastic cladding accents are removed. However, Subaru says they remain as color options.
The updated Solterra will reach the US market by this year's end when the company reveals the pricing and the full specs sheet.
