Tesla

Tesla's Model S Plaid and Model X Plaid made a surprise appearance at the Guangzhou Auto Show, ahead of their launch in China. People over there have been waiting a long time for these already, but the wait is almost over.

Tesla says it will unveil the pricing of the Model S Plaid and Model X Plaid for the Chinese market on January 6. The first deliveries are expected to happen in the first half of 2023.

The Plaid Model S and X recently made it to Europe, and now they're finally on their way to China as well. The global rollout of these models has been anything but fast - the initial deliveries started in the US back in June of 2021. So Chinese customers are trailing those in the US by around two years in this regard.

Currently, all Tesla cars sold in China are made at the Shanghai Gigafactory, but we're talking Model 3 and Model Y variations only. The pre-Plaid Model S and Model X haven't been sold in China since January 2021, so it will have been a while since Chinese customers were last able to order one of the larger Tesla cars. The Plaid EVs may need to be imported from the US, however, and that could negatively impact their pricing. All will be revealed next week.
