Tesla's V4 Supercharger pictured with credit card reader and CCS1 adapter

Tesla

Tesla has been taking its time with the rollout of its V4 Superchargers, but things are now beginning to ramp up. There are multiple reports by observant users on Reddit, posting pictures of new V4 Supercharger sites being constructed around the US and in Europe and Asia.

The image below, courtesy of Reddit user RealPokePOP is the most revealing so far. It shows that the V4 charger has a payment terminal and a CCS1 adapter, which Tesla calls the Magic Dock.

The two open the V4 Superchargers to non-Tesla owners. The CCS1 (Combined Charging System) adapter allows other EVs to charge at up to 250kW at Tesla's Superchargers, while the credit card reader allows users without a Tesla account to pay at Tesla's Superchargers.

The Tesla V4 Superchargers will support 350 kW charging, which means that EVs with an 800-volt architecture (like the Kia EV6) will be able to use the faster-charging standard, even if no current Tesla supports it.

Tesla's Supercharger network is the best in the North America, which has prompted many carmakers to pledge to use Tesla's NACS (North American Charging Standard) connector going forward - including Ford, GM, Rivian, Kia, and Nissan.
