Polestar

The Swedish electric vehicle brand Polestar has begun US production of its most affordable Polestar 3 model. The Long Range Single Motor variant is ready to shake up the North American EV landscape thanks to its attractive price tag and impressive range.

The $73,400 Polestar 3 was only available in the US as a Long Range Dual Motor model. With the introduction of the single-motor version, the price of entry drops significantly to $67,500. This makes the Polestar 3 a far more affordable option for buyers who want the performance and luxury of an electric SUV, but without the hefty price tag that comes with high-end EVs.

Polestar's decision to manufacture the Long Range Single Motor variant in the US is a clever move. By producing the vehicle at its Charleston, South Carolina plant, Polestar can streamline the delivery process for North American customers. It's possible that the cheapest Polestar 3 will qualify for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit, but whether it gets a full or partial award will depend on the origin of the battery.

"With the start of production of our Long range Single motor Polestar 3 in the US, we will now begin to deliver this car directly to North American customers," says Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller.

The single-motor variant may be the entry-level model, but it certainly doesn't compromise on performance or features. Boasting a respectable 295 hp and 361 lb-ft of torque, the rear-wheel drive Polestar 3 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds. And with an EPA-estimated range of up to 350 miles, it actually surpasses the range of its dual-motor sibling.

Inside the cabin, the 14.5-inch LED infotainment screen dominates the dashboard. It is complemented by a 9-inch driver display. Rear passengers are treated to their own climate control screen, making sure everyone on board stays comfortable.

Charging the Polestar 3 goes up to 250 kW and it can charge from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes. And with the recent announcement that Polestar drivers can now order NACS adapters to access Tesla's Supercharger network.
