Volvo Announcement

Volvo unveiled its latest electric vehicle, the ES90, a car that defies easy categorization. It blends sedan, fastback and SUV features, creating a unique option for drivers after a premium electric car.

The ES90 is built on Volvo's SPA2 architecture and powered by next-generation core computers, offering eight times the processing power of previous models. This technological upgrade enables over-the-air updates and improved performance throughout the car's lifespan.

The ES90 introduces 800V technology to Volvo's electric lineup, allowing for faster charging and extended range. Drivers can add up to 186 miles of range in just 10 minutes at a 350 kW fast charging station, and the vehicle has a total range of up to 435 miles on the WLTP cycle.

Design-wise, the ES90 features a raised ride height (18 cm ground clearance), a flowing roofline for improved aerodynamics, and the signature Thor's Hammer headlights. The car offers a reasonable 15 ft³ of cargo space, which expands to 25.9 ft³ (44.4 ft³ up to the roof) with the rear seats folded down. A 0.78 ft³ front trunk provides additional storage for charging cables.

The ES90 has a 10.2 ft wheelbase providing ample legroom for rear passengers. The cabin features a panoramic roof with adjustable transparency, a four-zone climate system with advanced air purification, and a choice of ambient lighting themes and upholstery options. The focus on sound comfort is evident, with low noise levels and an optional Bowers & Wilkins sound system featuring 25 speakers and Dolby Atmos spatial audio.

The ES90 comes with Volvo's latest infotainment system, featuring Google built-in, including Google Maps, Google Assistant, and access to the Google Play Store. A 14.5-inch center display provides access to navigation, entertainment, and vehicle settings, while a 9-inch driver display and head-up display provide essential driving information. A 360-degree camera with a 3D view assists with parking.

Safety has always been a core focus for Volvo, and the ES90 is designed to meet the company's rigorous safety standards. It features a strong safety cage, advanced restraint systems, and optimized deformation zones. Active safety systems include five radars, seven cameras, twelve ultrasonic sensors, and LiDAR technology. The ES90 also features a driver understanding system and Safe Space Technology, which includes door opening alerts and full-cabin occupant sensing.
