Volkswagen ID.7's North American launch is canceled

Volkswagen VW

Production for Volkswagen's 'electric Passat', the ID.7, started back in August of 2023, which is also when the order books opened in Germany. The car was then supposed to make it to North America in 2024, with sales beginning during the summer of last year.

That never happened, and a couple of months before the intended launch in North America, VW indefinitely delayed the car's release in the US and Canada. And if you've been (very) patiently waiting for it to finally go on sale, you're out of luck.

Volkswagen ID.7's North American launch is canceled

VW has confirmed that the ID.7 is not going to ever be sold in the US and Canada. The delay turned into an outright cancellation. The news comes straight from VW's Canadian head of communications, so it's as official as it can be.

VW dealers were informed of this development through an email last week. So, for now, North Americans interested in a VW EV will have to settle for either the ID.4 or the ID. Buzz.
