Smart

The all-electric Smart #5 SUV has gone on a pre-sale in China ahead of its October 20 official launch. With pre-orders starting at an attractive $35,000, this five-seater SUV is on its way to redefine the brand's image and challenge established players in the electric car market.

Embracing Mercedes-Benz's "Sensual and Sharp" design philosophy, the Smart #5 boasts a distinctive aesthetic. Eight exterior colors, with funky names such as Saturn Beige, Terra Green, and Pulsar Ruby, offer plenty of personalization options. Measuring 185 inches long, 74.8 inches wide, and 66.9 inches tall, the #5 offers plenty of space for passengers and cargo.

A unique luminous logo on the D-pillar adds a touch of flair, while optional outdoor adventure kits, complete with roof racks and even climbing ladders, cater to the adventurous spirit. The impressive 3,527 lb towing capacity makes the Smart #5 a surprisingly capable small boat or camper hauler.

Built on Geely's SEA architecture, the Smart #5 is engineered for performance and efficiency. Both single-motor and dual-motor versions are available, with power outputs ranging from 335 hp to the most powerful Smart ever - a 637 hp Brabus. Two battery options, 76 kWh and 100 kWh, provide a range of up to 460 miles, promising ample driving distance between charges. Finally, the car's 4C fast-charging technology enables a 311 miles range boost in around 15 minutes.

The Smart #5's interior is equally impressive, with six color choices and wood accents creating a luxurious ambiance. The centerpiece is a 13-inch 2.5K dual screen, complemented by a 25.6-inch AR head-up display and a 10.3-inch LCD instrument panel. Powered by an AMD V2000 chip, the Smart OS 2.0 operating system promises a seamless user experience. A 20-speaker Sennheiser sound system, with a detachable portable speaker, rounds off the in-car entertainment.

The Smart #5 is a practicality king, with 34 storage spaces, a 72-liter front trunk, and 110 liters of under-trunk storage. And then, there's one of the most unique features of the industry: a 233-inch automotive-grade full-color laser projector, offering a peak brightness of 2000 lumens and 1080P resolution.

This is a significant step for the brand. The #5 is as far from a Smart vehicle as we have ever seen. With its attractive price point, striking design, impressive performance, and innovative features, the #5 is a compelling choice for eco-conscious drivers seeking a blend of style, practicality, and cutting-edge technology. We can't wait to see it on our roads.
