Alfa Romeo is a brand renowned for its extravagance, design heritage and racing pedigree. All Alfas incorporate iconic styling cues to always stand out in traffic and as the brand recently delved into the world of electric vehicles we were lucky enough to get one for a test drive.
The Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica Veloce we are testing today is the top-of-the-line version, outputting 280 hp and 254 lb-ft of torque to its front wheels. Yet, the topic of today’s article is efficiency and how long can the small electric crossover go with its 54 kWh battery pack, 50.8 kWh of which are usable.
A dedicated review is coming soon as well, but first let's see how the Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica Veloce performs in our range test. We drove our test routes, doing the same track both ways at constant speeds at the same place as with every other car we test. The ambient temperature while testing the Alfa Romeo Junior was 57°F - a bit lower than ideal, which hurt its performance very slightly.
Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica 240 Veloce 2024 -
At our lowest testing speed of 37 mph the Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica Veloce showed great efficiency. The results at such low speeds are comparable to vehicles with much less power. The little Italian needs almost no energy to move forward at low speeds, but thanks to its low battery capacity it still doesn't achieve an amazing range.
Once we move on to the next speed of 56 mph the shape and size of the Junior Veloce start to play and the consumption starts to take off. The result is still acceptable for the segment, although the small battery once again results in a result that's once again below the median.
At the highest testing speed of 81 mph the Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica Veloce produces an abysmal result with relatively high consumption and low range. The tall body causes extra drag and alongside the unimpressive battery capacity make the Alfa somewhat of a failure on the highway. The Junior is not really great for taking outside the city, which is truly a shame for a vehicle that otherwise gets so many things right.
Alfa Romeo injects some Italian charisma in the small electric crossovers segment with the Junior Elettrica. The car itself is fun and has a lot of good qualities we will mention in our upcoming full review. However, the range isn't its strongest side and its results were highly underwhelming.
The battery capacity just isn't enough to compete with rivals. If you plan on staying inside the city and using it only to commute to work, the Junior is great, but for anything more than that you should probably look elsewhere.
You can use the widget below to find out the Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica Veloce’s range in every combination of speed and temperature you might need. We've used our real world tests and a complex model to provide an estimate that should be as close to the actual performance as possible.
