BYD

BYD released its newest SUV, the 2026 Sealion 05. This series gives drivers a choice between a pure electric car and a plug-in hybrid. BYD wants to keep its top spot in the market by offering better tech for less money, and this new release shows that the company is not slowing down anytime soon.

The biggest news for the pure electric Sealion 05 EV is how fast it charges. BYD uses what they call "flash charging" technology. If you are in a rush, you will love this. The car can fill up its energy in just about five minutes. This makes charging an EV feel almost as fast as putting gas in a traditional car. It also uses the second-generation Blade Battery, known for being very safe and strong.

If you choose the pure electric model, you get plenty of power. The Sealion 05 EV can travel up to 391 miles on a single charge and it is also quite fast for an SUV. It can go from zero to 62 mph in only 5.9 seconds. That kind of speed helps when you need to merge onto a busy highway.

For people who worry about finding chargers, the Sealion 05 DM-i hybrid is an interesting pick. This version uses BYD's fifth-generation DM technology. It pairs a gas engine with an electric motor. When the battery is low, the car only uses 3.1 liters of fuel for every 62 miles. That is very efficient for a vehicle of this size.

The total range of the hybrid is the real shocker. With a full tank of gas and a full battery, the Sealion 05 DM-i can travel 1,308 miles. You could drive from one side of a country to the other without stopping at a gas station. Buyers can choose between two different battery sizes for the hybrid. One is a 26.628 kWh pack that offers 137 miles of electric-only range. The larger 34.275 kWh pack allows the car to drive 190 miles before the gas engine even needs to start.

BYD also packed the Sealion 05 with smart features. The more expensive versions of the car come with a system called "God's Eye C." This helps the driver stay safe on the road. If you want even more help, you can add a LiDAR sensor that lets the car use "God's Eye B," an advanced system that can help the car drive itself through busy city streets.

Inside, the car feels modern and clean. It uses a style BYD calls "ocean aesthetics." The car has a wheelbase of 109.1 inches - there should be a good amount of legroom for passengers in the back. The cabin also features a high-end intelligent cockpit. It has screens and software that make it easy to control your music, maps, and climate settings.

The most surprising part of the Sealion 05 series might be the price. BYD is known for making electric cars that many people can actually afford. The hybrid Sealion 05 DM-i starts at just RMB 97,900 - that is about $14,360 at current exchange rates. The most expensive hybrid trim goes up to RMB 127,900 ($18,750).

If you want the pure electric Sealion 05 EV, you will pay a bit more. The prices for the EV version start at RMB 119,900 and go up to RMB 145,900 ($17,600 to $21,400). These low prices put a lot of pressure on other car companies. It is hard to find another SUV with this much technology for such a low cost. BYD is clearly trying to win over every customer it can.

The 2026 Sealion 05 series helps grow the BYD Ocean family of cars. By offering both hybrids and EVs, BYD makes sure there is something for everyone. Whether you want to stop using gas forever or just want a car that saves you money at the pump, these new SUVs are really hard to ignore.
