BYD unleashes electric fury with 1,085 HP Han L and Tang L

The Chinese auto giant BYD has officially taken the wraps off its latest creations: the Han L sedan and Tang L crossover. These high-end electric vehicles showcase the brand's latest design language and offer ridiculous levels of performance thanks to their new 30,000 RPM electric motors.

BYD unleashes electric fury with 1,085 HP Han L and Tang L

The Han L sedan, while still a bit similar to its predecessor, sports a more aggressive and refined aesthetic. Elongated headlights connected by a chrome accent, flush door handles, and a sleek roofline create a truly aerodynamic profile. A LiDAR sensor atop the roof hints at advanced driver-assistance capabilities. The Han L's dimensions are 198.8 inches in length, 77.2 inches in width, and 59.3 inches in height, with a wheelbase of 116.9 inches, making it slightly larger than the standard Han sedan.

The Han L offers a range of powertrain options. The rear-wheel-drive variant already features a ridiculously powerful 500 kW (670 hp) electric motor. However, it's the all-wheel-drive version that steals the show. With a combined output of 810 kW (1,085 hp) from its dual electric motors, the AWD Han L catapults from 0 to 62 mph in 2.7 seconds. That's not really a Tesla Model S Plaid territory, despite an equally powerful powertrain. The culprit is most likely extra weight, but 2.7 seconds is mighty quick anyway.


There are alternative powertrain options. BYD also offers the Han L with plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. The DM-i variant combines a 1.5-liter internal combustion engine with a 200 kW (268 hp) electric motor. The DM-p variant adds another 200 kW electric motor for even more power.

The Tang L crossover presents a more distinctive departure from its standard counterpart. Slim LED running lights and headlights integrated into the front bumper give it a futuristic look. An active air intake and a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor enhance its tech appeal. The Tang L's dimensions are 198.4 inches in length, 78.6 inches in width, and 69.3 inches in height, with a wheelbase of 116.1 inches. This makes it considerably larger than the standard Tang SUV.


Mirroring the Han L, the Tang L offers both RWD and AWD electric powertrain options, culminating in the same 810 kW (1,085 hp) output for the AWD variant. This allows the Tang L to achieve an impressive acceleration of 3.9 seconds from 0 to 62 mph. Again - not a Tesla Model X Plaid territory, but it is a tad quicker than the somewhat smaller BMW iX M60.

Both Han L and Tang L are just another big step in BYD's market strategy. With their powerful powertrains, advanced technology, and sleek designs, the Han L and Tang L are throwing the gauntlet down. Not many automakers will be able to pick it up.
