Dongfeng to enter Canadian market soon, two models are underway

A new trade agreement between Canada and China opens the door for Chinese car manufacturers to enter the Canadian market. The trade deal reduces the 100% tariff on Chinese-imported cars to 6.1% for up to 49,000 vehicles in 2027. We've already seen some manufacturers like BYD, Chery and Geely making plans to enter the market, but the latest one to join the waitlist is Dongfeng.

Dongfeng will not be coming alone, though, as the company announced its plans to introduce its premium Voyah brand to Canadians as well. This week, the company visited Montreal and invited local journalists to see some of the cars in person.

The Nammi Box and Vigo will be the first cars from Dongfeng to reach Canadian shores, North World Industry, which is the official distributor, said in front of journalists. The two vehicles are in the process of homologation.

The Nammi Box is a compact hatchback, while the Vigo is a small crossover, both with a single-motor FWD setup. The Nammi Box offers 94 hp and a 42.3 kWh battery, good for 198 miles of range according to WLTP data. The Vigo gets a 51.87 kWh battery with 211 miles of range and a 181-hp motor.

Both models are expected to launch for less than CAD 35,000, which is extremely competitive in the Canadian context.
