Electric Mini Countryman US pricing confirmed

Mini

Mini is making a bold play in the US electric car market with its new Countryman SE ALL4. This stylish EV comes with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain delivering a spirited 308 horsepower, enough to propel it from 0 to 60 mph in a brisk 5.4 seconds. However, with a starting price of $45,200 and a range of just 212 miles, it may be facing an uphill battle.

Sure, the Countryman SE ALL4 doesn't skimp on features. It comes with LED headlights, a panoramic moonroof, and a power liftgate, as well as roof rails and 18-inch alloy wheels. On the inside, you'll find a dual-zone automatic climate control system, dynamic cruise control, and parking assistant. The minimalist interior is anchored by a distinctive 9.4-inch circular display.

Mini is offering a range of options to further customize your Countryman EV. These include larger 19-inch wheels, privacy glass, and a trailer hitch. In a rather surprising move, Mini charges extra for tinted rear windows, while the two-tone exterior is a no-cost option.

For those looking for a more luxurious experience, there are several Comfort packages available. These add features like keyless entry, auto-dimming mirrors, a wireless smartphone charger, and even advanced driver assistance systems like Active Driving Assistant Pro and Parking Assistant Plus. Other options include heated front seats and a Harman-Kardon premium audio system.

But if you add all the options, the price quickly climbs to over $51,000 - and that's before delivery charges. The only consolation for the US customers is the fact that the Countryman is far more expensive in Europe. Fully loaded SE Sport version, with a home charger included, costs the heart-stopping equivalent of $77,000 in the UK.

The 66.5 kWh battery pack powers the dual-motor setup, but the 212-mile range is not quite top of the chart material. Thankfully, the Countryman EV can be fast-charged from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes with a 130 kW DC fast charger. A full charge from empty takes just over eight hours with a 9.6 kW Level 2 charger.

The Countryman EV will land at the US dealerships this September, and Mini is currently accepting reservations for a $250 refundable deposit. While its range might not be class-leading, the Countryman EV's stylish design and peppy performance might just win over buyers looking for a fun and distinctive electric car.

With rivals like the Chevrolet Equinox EV offering more range for significantly less money and the Tesla Model Y offering both superior range and performance for a slightly higher price, the Countryman EV faces an uphill battle. Mini is banking on its brand cachet and the Countryman's unique personality to carve out a niche in the increasingly competitive EV market. Will that be enough?
