Faraday Future

This will be one of the most anticipated moments of automotive history - once we see the first units of the FF 91 in customers’ garages, the new chapter in the history of Faraday Future will begin. The company isn’t out of the woods yet, it managed to secure enough funds to begin production, but we'll see how sales go.

Faraday Future FF 91 was unveiled in 2017 and back then it was one heck of an electric car. Its 1,050 hp coupled with a huge 130kWh battery meant blistering performance and unprecedented driving range. A lot has changed though in the last 5 years. A 1,000-hp electric car is not a norm yet, but it isn’t a unicorn anymore and we are already forgetting about range anxiety.

While the FF 91 may no longer be the leader in power or range, the car still has a lot to offer. Its design is unique, it makes the most of the interior space available thanks to the cleverly packed electric powertrain. And it will never be produced in hundreds of thousands of units, it’ll always remain a rare sight which is important for many people.

The first units of the FF 91 have already left the production line and went for final quality assessments. The mass production was meant to start at the end of March, but the company has been going through some final issues and the financing deal was approved at a very late stage.

The former CEO of Faraday Future, Jia Yueting, who was replaced last year by Carsten Breitfeld of BMW and then by Xuefeng Chen, is back in the driving seat. He was reappointed as the CEO on March 1 after what can be called only prolonged internal fighting.

The next few weeks will be crucial for the survival of Faraday Future. The company claimed it had over 64,000 reservations for the FF 91 but those were never paid. During one of the investor’s calls, Faraday Future confirmed it had only 401 orders paid and 14,000 remained on the books as unpaid.

When you visit the Faraday Future website, the prominent countdown displays the time left until the first production vehicle leaves the production line. The $7,300 preorders for the FF 91 Futurist Alliance Edition are closed while the $2,900 downpayment for the Futurist Edition still shows as available. Will you bite? Let us know if you do - it could be a great story to tell.

They can always find a sucker to buy their car for 310 grand. Maybe just one.
